Earlier this year, we had a spectacular few days in Montreal, Canada. It’s a city that has always piqued my interest, with its fascinating French Canadian blend. I knew it was artistic, cultural, beautiful, and boasted the best gastronomic reputation in Canada. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to board the plane!
Then I understood we’d be there during peak winter. This was not any winter, but a Canadian winter. I was concerned that the temperatures would hinder us from getting to know the city. I saw -16 on the forecast, a temperature I could only fathom enjoying while wrapped up indoors under several blankets.
It turns out, that there’s definitely lots to do in Montreal in winter, and it’s not all outside (so don’t be concerned about the weather!) Oh, and even if you do venture out, the temps aren’t as unpleasant as they seem, as long as you’re dressed.

1. Bota Bota
During our visit, the water around it was completely frozen, with several inches of snow on top. It was not going anywhere soon! This technique improves circulation and revitalizes the body. With temperatures of -16 degrees outside, I never made it to a cold plunge pool (WIMP!). But I did like the rooftop Jacuzzis very much. At one point, my eyelashes and hair froze. The small opening to the frozen river, which can be accessed as part of the cold plunge activities, is unique and only for the brave.
2. La Grand Roue
A journey on La Grand Roue is without a doubt one of my favorite winter activities in Montreal. What could be more spectacular than viewing the sunset from Montreal’s lit ferris wheel? Located in the ancient port district, overlooking one of the city’s winter ice rinks. The voyage on the wheel takes roughly 20 minutes. Because Montreal is very flat, it’s an excellent method to see the entire city. As well as significant monuments such as Notre-Dame Basilica. The Montreal Biosphere, and Mount Royal’s peak.
3. Play Crazy Golf
If you’re dealing with the cold winter weather, head to Putting Edge, Montreal’s indoor crazy golf club. It’s one of the most exciting indoor activities in Montreal right now! Since you descend the steps, you will notice that it becomes dark, since everything is UV lamps. The 18-hole course sparkles in the dark, so I recommend wearing white or bright to stand out. We spent almost an hour playing crazy golf here. Alternating between brilliant flamingos, neon dragons, and fluorescent palm trees. It was such a wonderful activity.

4. Chic Wine Bar In Montreal
One of the locals suggested we visit Pullman if we have time. We ended up visiting on a Sunday night, looking for a quiet dinner of wine and cheese. It was the perfect location. With its flickering candles and dark lighting, it’s romantic, warm, and sophisticated. We loved it! Our waiter let us sample several options before deciding on a bottle of red. The cuisine was also amazing. Our favorite meals were the flavorful tuna tataki and the winter beet salad. The Quebec cheese board was also fantastic, and it was what we were looking for when we left the hotel.
5. Montreal’s Neighbourhoods
Montreal, like many other great cities, feels like a collection of little towns and villages, each with its own distinct identity. I enjoyed getting to know the different neighborhoods. There’s up-and-coming Saint-Henri, trendy The Plateau, gourmet paradise Little Burgundy, hipster Mile End, and mural-covered Saint-Laurent Boulevard. My favorite was the latter; I’m a sucker for colorful locations, and the street art there was among the best I’d seen on my travels.
